![]() But.I understand now that the mini starters don't require this solenoid and can be run of a simple relay from the ignition switch.I think there are several posts about this, maybe someone can chime in on the details. I mounted my starter solenoid next to my CNC reservoirs since I was making a bracket and it seemed a good spot for jump starting the car if need be. ![]() ![]() The other fuse holder next to the Painless is for the Painless solenoid to protect the wiring from a failed/shorted solenoid winding. The little fuse holder next to the Painless is a Breeze Kit 3 amp breaker for Radio Memory and clock that bypasses the Painless solenoid. Square plastic box next to the Painless is the Mega Fuse to protect the battery if the Alternator overcharges. Yep, done this many times.īut, it does keep the big wires very close to the starter with short runs. The only issue with this system is that the remote solenoid draws several Amps to keep the 12V circuit active.so you have to remember to press the big Red button to shut it off when you park the car, or else it drains the battery in about 6 hours. Yes you only run an 18 guage wire from the remote cutoff to the big red switch they provide. Here's some pics of the Painless in my 3.1. If this doesn't make any sense and is a bad idea, a few words of "why" would be appreciated.īut on the other hand, if this concept/idea has some merit, has anyone done it already who can share some details/comments, or is there 'off-the-shelf' hardware that does this? It would keep heavy cable runs short and likely be easy to wire/install, yet would give the driver full access to shut things down if needed. a "remote" operated Master Disconnect that is controlled by a "light duty" switch in the cockpit, perhaps including a relay? Which sorta defeats the purpose of short battery runs. which is typically installed somewhere in the cockpit, within the drivers reach, it still means running heavy (battery-sized) cables from the solenoid/battery to and from the cockpit. I really like what Jeff K did on the "Indy14" build in mounting the starter solenoid on the PS engine mount - because if I understand everything correctly (and I'm learning), it means very short battery-solenoid cables from the front mounted battery, and very short solenoid-starter cables.īut if I want to install a master disconnect switch.
